庆祝中秋节节是紧密联系在一起的后羿和嫦娥，月亮女神的不朽的传奇。相传在远古时代的射日英雄后羿娶了嫦娥，并成为帝王，可是他愈来愈暴戾，多番施行恶政，成了大暴君。有一天，后羿从王母娘娘的手中求得到一包不死药，只要吃了不死药，就能长生不老。嫦娥知道後为拯救苍生免受后羿永远的统治，就把不死药全部吞下，然後变成了仙女，往月宫飞去。百姓们得知嫦娥奔月成仙後，纷纷在月下摆设香案，向嫦娥祈求平安吉祥，由此便逐渐形成了中秋节拜月的风俗。
